Miami real estate development firm Terra has started work on a scaled-back version of its original plan for 1,400 apartment units in Northwest Miami-Dade County. It came after others showed interest in developing in the area, prompting Terra to sell part of its expansive holdings there for $53.5 million.

Terra, perhaps best known for its luxury residential product in Miami’s Coconut Grove, has teamed with New Valley to develop a 460-unit garden-style multifamily complex on 27 acres — part of the original 72 acres Terra bought over a year ago. The remaining 45 acres was just acquired from Terra by Butters and Greystar, who plan a mixed-use project.
