I cannot remember a time where people were more polarized in their thinking and unwilling to talk (more importantly listen) about their differences and concerns. It is alarming how many people have devolved into an “us” versus “them” mentality. This permeates not just political thinking, but so many areas concerning how we feel about each other. It also concerns me deeply as to how this mentality permeates the way people think and feel about lawyers.

The truth is that most lawyers are moral, hardworking people who seek truth and justice. Nevertheless, the undeniable fact is that we are often vilified. The good work we all do seeking justice can all too easily be overshadowed by the misdeeds of the few, or misperception of the many. In times where people are looking for a scapegoat, this effect can be amplified.
