Greenberg Traurig's Miami office has expanded its head count by two, with product liability partner Rebecca Ocariz jumping from Akerman and Greenberg cybersecurity partner Kate Black relocating from San Francisco.

Ocariz defends pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, as well as other life science, retail and technology companies. Between 2003 and 2006, she was senior counsel at pharmaceutical company IVAX Corp. She also served as president of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers in 2016.

"We welcome Rebecca to our products liability team in Miami, which works strategically with lawyers throughout the firm on some of the most important product liability cases in Florida and throughout the country," Yosbel Ibarra, co-managing partner of the firm's Miami office, said in a statement. "Her experience as a former senior counsel for an international pharmaceuticals corporation will allow her to offer a valuable perspective on issues affecting our clients."

An Akerman spokesperson said, "Rebecca is a fine lawyer and we wish her well."

Black advises health care and genetics firm on data privacy, information protection, and commercial transactions. Before joining Greenberg, Black was 23andMe's first global privacy officer.

In a statement, Greenberg Miami office co-managing partner Jaret Davis said the moves will help the firm serve its health care clients, specifically in Miami, as the practice "continues to grow as a major component and driver of the economy both nationally and in South Florida."

"The additions of Rebecca and Kate dramatically expand the practice dimensions we can offer our health care and other commercial clients, particularly as South Florida continues to scale in providing innovative models of healthcare delivery, as well as consumer health and wellness applications," he added.
