He is part of the Republican Cuban political powerhouse that is the Diaz de la Portillas. That’s the three brothers, Miguel and the younger Renier and Alex, who recently failed in a bid for the Miami-Dade County Commission. Older family members served in office back in pre-revolutionary Cuba with great-grandfather Horacio Diaz Pardo in the Cuban Senate.
