A Wesleyan University professor who was injured when a vehicle struck the driver’s side of her car has been awarded $100,000 through arbitration.

Lois Brown-Monson had just finished her first year as a professor of African-American studies at the university and was heading home from commencement activities in May 2013 when her 2006 Honda CR-V was struck by a 2001 Ford Focus driven by Gerald Bakri. Brown-Monson, 51, was stopped at a red light in Middletown when she was struck. A lawsuit was filed in Hartford Superior Court in May 2015.
