A former Salvation Army employee in Connecticut has sued the organization, claiming she was instructed to turn away individuals based on their sexuality and marital status while working as director of operations at a Hartford-area shelter.

Urleen Naughton had worked at the Marshall House since 2012, the complaint states. She was subsequently assigned to a supervisor who, Naughton alleges, used racial epithets at work and told her to discourage lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual individuals from staying at the 27-bed shelter.
