A New Haven judge has awarded $1.2 million to an angry investor who filed a civil claim against an unlicensed investment adviser who ripped off close friends and family members. In all, federal authorities say John D’Auria took in $2 million, including one man’s life savings.

D’Auria, of East Haven, is serving a prison sentence of just over five years for his actions, which includes a perjury count for lying during the civil case.
