A Superior Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by the state Republican Party which sought to prevent Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy from using campaign funds that were initially contributed to Democratic congressional candidates.

The lawsuit was filed Oct. 17, when the Republican Party of Connecticut asked Judge Antonio Robaina to decide whether the use of the contributions made to the national Democratic Party was in fact a violation of state election law. The Republicans sought to block the use of the funds, and asked that the Malloy campaign be ordered to return $6 million in grant money it received for participation of the Citizens’ Election Program.
