A federal judge on Friday imposed the most severe sentence yet in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol: 63 months in prison for a Florida man who repeatedly assaulted police officers trying to hold back the mob.

Judge Tanya Chutkan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia turned aside arguments from defendant Ronald Palmer’s lawyer that other Jan. 6 defendants were given more lenient punishments. She noted it was “hard to find a range that was comparable” to the violence that Palmer was accused of committing during the riot.
