Former President Donald Trump is suing to try and shield certain documents from his time at the White House from being handed over to a House committee about the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol, setting off a legal fight between the former president and President Joe Biden’s administration.

The Biden White House announced earlier this month that it would not assert executive privilege over certain documents that Trump did not want to be shared with the Jan. 6 select committee, chaired by Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Mississippi. In his lawsuit, filed Monday in D.C. federal court, Trump alleges the committee “has decided to harass President Trump and senior members of his administration (among others) by sending an illegal, unfounded, and overbroad records request to the Archivist of the United States.”
