The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ordered the Federal Trade Commission on Friday to dismiss a complaint against 1-800 Contacts, rejecting the agency’s findings that the company had violated federal antitrust law in agreeing not to advertise its products in online searches of its rivals.

The ruling, from a unanimous panel of the Manhattan-based appeals court, said that the commission had ”incorrectly concluded that the agreements are an unfair method of competition,” and sent the case back to the FTC with instructions to dispose of it.
