Scott Schools is moving from a U.S. Justice Department under fire to a corporate legal department that has been taking hits from all sides.

Uber Technologies Inc. confirmed Monday afternoon that Schools will take the chief compliance and ethics officer position at the San Francisco-based ride-hailing company. Schools, who has been called “the most important unknown person in D.C.,” stepped down from his associate deputy attorney general role at the U.S. Department of Justice last week.
