As Hurricane Irma conjures 100-plus mph winds and stirs Florida’s officials to order evacuations and declare states of emergency, brick-and-mortar businesses caught in the storm’s path need to roll out immediate plans for personnel safety, say disaster response professionals. And after Irma passes, these businesses will have their work cut out for them to become operational again.

Through it all—planning for the hurricane, writing a response strategy, training employees, reviewing alternate vendor contracts, issuing benefits and possibly doing battle with insurance companies—businesses’ lawyers will be involved, the disaster experts said.
