Over the coming months, the nascent Trump administration needs to fill approximately 4,000 positions in the federal government. More than 1,000 of these positions require Senate confirmation. You or an executive who works for your company may be approached about filling one of these positions. This article lays out what an individual going through this process can expect.

In order to be considered for one of these positions, candidates typically must submit to meticulous scrutiny of their professional, political, financial and personal backgrounds. This “vetting” process seeks to ensure—before the president makes a nomination or appointment—that the candidate is suitable for the position and presents no unforeseen liabilities.
