Third-party e-billing systems can cut legal spend and increase efficiencies. But less than a third of general counsel in major corporations are using the software, a recently released report reveals.

According to the 2016 General Counsel Report by the Consero Group, which includes answers from 76 general counsel from Fortune 1000 companies, just 29 percent of GCs use a third-party e-billing system to process their legal bills. That’s too bad, because those who reported using an e-billing system said that the savings can be substantial. While 82 percent of the respondents said that under 25 percent of their legal department’s annual outside spend was saved through e-billing software, 18 percent reported up to 50 percent in savings.
