A government report may not be at the top of your New Year’s reading list, but if you are an intellectual property rights (IPR) owner and concerned about the ever-present and wide-ranging problems of counterfeiting and piracy, you may want to make an exception and read the 2015 Out-of-Cycle Review of Notorious Markets (the 2015 OCR). But, if an aversion to government-issued reports still keeps you from picking it up, I’ve summarized its highlights below.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) issued the 2015 OCR at the end of December 2015. In a nutshell, the report contains an insightful synopsis (based upon publicly available information) of the current state of the counterfeiting and piracy problems and a non-exhaustive list of the most prominent examples of online and physical marketplaces for infringing material.
