In a recent issue of Lexpert, Anthony Davis has some shopping advice for general counsel. Or perhaps more accurately, he has tips for GCs searching for external counterparts to take on mega-projects.

“Given the sizes of the projects that are coming in to in-house counsel and the complexity of them these days, there is not an in-house counsel in Western Canada that is set up or has the capacity to address any major projects and keep it internal,” Michael Thackray of McMillan told Davis. “It’s almost a given that when a material project lands on an in-house counsel’s desk, he or she would be looking to retain outside counsel to assist on the multidisciplinary features of the project,” he said.
