If it's one thing we've learned over the years about corporate counsel, it's that they love data. Everyone in law practice, or indeed, the corporate world, needs to operate efficiently and intelligently. And the main way to gauge that and predict how things will go is to have reliable, accurate information.

We like data, too—we get a sense of who our audience is, and what its concerns are. So we ask our audience at regular intervals about staffing, expenses, outside counsel, fees (both hourly and alternative) and time spent on matters. The following pages are a sampler from the 2014 Law Department Metrics Benchmarking Survey, conducted by our affiliate ALM Legal Intelligence.
