After working his way from outside counsel to Major League Baseball (MLB), to in-house counsel in charge of labor relations, to chief operating officer, Robert “Rob” Manfred Jr. Thursday evening was elected the 10th commissioner in MLB history.

Manfred, 55, will succeed commissioner Allan “Bud” Selig in January as Selig’s hand-picked successor. “He has the training, temperament and experience to be a very good commissioner,” Selig said after the vote.
