To the Coal Face

“Down in the (Megawatt) Valley” for the new top lawyer at the energy company.

In North Yorkshire, England, along the River Ouse about 200 miles north of London, sits Megawatt Valley. And in the valley, home to several coal-fired power plants, sits the Drax Power, Limited, headquarters—which is where Kavita Singh now reports to work every day. “I have the unique opportunity to practice law situated on-site at a 4,000-megawatt power plant,” says Singh, the new head of legal services for the company, a subsidiary of Drax Group plc. “I’m literally working ‘at the coal face’ and at the very heart of British industry.” Singh took up the top legal position in January, in a newly created position that incorporates duties previously performed by other attorneys at the company.
