The digital marketing software firm Ibotta has hired David Shapiro as its first chief legal officer, bringing aboard an attorney with deep in-house experience as it lays the groundwork for an initial public offering that would value the business at $2 billion.

Shapiro comes to the Denver-based company from another prominent Denver company, Vail Resorts, which operates 41 mountain ski resorts. He joined Vail as GC in 2015 following six years at Denver-based DaVita, where he rose to general counsel of its kidney business, a post that included supervising a 100-person legal team.
