A longtime Google lawyer who turbocharged the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s rulemaking after becoming its general counsel in 2021 has been rewarded with the top job.

The Bethesda, Maryland-based federal agency this week announced the promotion of Austin Schlick to executive director. In a news release, the commission said that since coming aboard three years ago, Schlick “has worked to reform outdated processes, streamline workflows to create greater efficiencies and support an aggressive rulemaking agenda for consumer safety.”
