EBay has agreed to pay $3 million to settle criminal charges that its employees in 2019 sent live spiders and cockroaches to harass and punish a Massachusetts couple whose online newsletter, EcommerceBytes, was upsetting top executives with negative coverage.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts on Thursday said the fine was the largest allowable under the six felony charges it brought against the San Jose, California-based company. It simultaneously announced the charges and settlement on Thursday.
