“Stack ranking,” an evaluation system in which managers rate employees as top, average or low performers based on how they compare with co-workers, has itself received plenty of negative feedback. But many in the tech industry, including some of its largest employers, continue to embrace it.
Stack ranking continues to be a popular practice within the tech industry, with Amazon and Meta reportedly reviving the practice to evaluate and compare employees and their performance amid industry layoffs.
