Federal authorities allege that the general counsel for a monastic institute and a man she was living with who called himself an Orthodox Christian monk raked in more than $3.6 million through a COVID-19 relief loan scheme, then used the money to buy a house, fine watches, dozens of cases of wine, exclusive memberships and other lavish items.

The legal chief, Tracey Stockton, 64, and Brian Andrew Bushell, 47, are charged with conspiring to commit wire fraud and unlawful monetary transactions. They face up to 30 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines.
