A longtime lawyer for the Brookings Institution who has served as its general counsel since late 2018 is departing for a top legal role at the Bethesda, Maryland-based Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Michael Cavadel will serve as senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary for the nonprofit, which funds research and drug development and recently invested $6 million in Massachusetts-based startup Carbon Sciences to develop a gene therapy for cystic fibrosis. Cavadel announced his new role in a LinkedIn post late last week.
