Tech giant Qualcomm Inc. has plucked its new general counsel from the legal department of General Motors.

San Diego-based Qualcomm, a maker of semiconductors and wireless telecommunications products, said Friday that Ann Chaplin is coming aboard as general counsel and corporate secretary, reporting directly to CEO Cristiano Amon.
