The American Board of Surgery, a Philadelphia-based organization that certifies general surgeons and similar specialists, elevated Adanwimo “Ada” Okafor from associate general counsel to general counsel Oct. 1.

Okafor is the first person of color to hold the role in the organization’s 84-year history, according to a LinkedIn post the attorney penned about her promotion. A news release by the ABS noted Okafor will continue to serve as the organization’s first chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer.
