Companies may be anxious to see more synchronicity among the patchwork of state privacy laws in the United States. But according to a webinar hosted by Perkins Coie and FTI Consulting on Thursday titled “The New Privacy Landscape: California’s New Law and Prospects for Federal Action,” they probably shouldn’t hold their breath.

Panelists discussed the competing philosophies that continue to surround the ongoing debate over just how responsible corporations should be held for consumer data, which could make it difficult for the requisite momentum to coalesce around federal privacy legislation. And then there’s also the issue of COVID-19.
