An alarming number of in-house legal, compliance and security officers said their companies missed threats during the past year—and some of those misses resulted in physical harm to employees, customers and others associated with the business, according to a new study.

The Ontic Center for Protective Intelligence, a research arm of Texas-based software firm Ontic, commissioned the survey of 300 chief legal, compliance and chief security officers to learn how companies have approached security and the challenges they expect to encounter in the coming year. The survey occurred in October and the respondents work for U.S.-based companies with more than 5,000 employees.
