The start of fall hiring appears to be going smoothly as the COVID-19 pandemic remains in the picture. Matching the estimated number of announcements from last year, the chief legal officer and general counsel posts are still being filled to ensure legal departments return to full speed in preparation for the next year.

This month, notable moves included Zoom Video Communications Inc. naming a new legal leader after its chief legal officer had been promoted to chief operating officer earlier this year; Lumber Liquidators appointing a top lawyer amid rebranding to deal with class actions and high sales from the COVID-19 home improvement projects; and insurers GEICO and American Automobile Association announced new general counsel following others in the industry that recently made appointments over the last few months.
