E-commerce has evolved significantly over the past 17 years from when I began working in e-commerce for eBay Inc., a global online marketplace. During my time at eBay, and later at StubHub (a global ticket marketplace), I learned that governance functions like legal and compliance operate most effectively when they contain agile subject matter experts who are embedded in the business and focused on building customer trust. In Walmart Inc.’s U.S. e-commerce business, we’ve designed these principles into our ethics and compliance (E&C) program.
