REI Co-op Brands has appointed Wilma Wallace as VP, general counsel and legal secretary.

“I'm excited by the timelessness of the co-op's purpose, balanced with the ability to evolve the business to be relevant, inclusive and thriving,” Wallace said, in a press release announcing her role at the Seattle-based specialty outdoor retailer. “I'm also moved by the co-op's commitment to members and stewardship of the environment.”

Wallace joined the company in October, according to the release, which announced three new executive hires at REI.

Christine Putur was named chief information officer and Chris Speyer will oversee design, production and sales of REI products.

Most recently, Wallace had served as interim general counsel for Enveritas, a nonprofit focused on sustainability. Prior to that, she had spent more than 20 years at Gap Inc. According to her LinkedIn, she spent two decades as a deputy GC with Gap before serving as the VP of global sustainability and business and human rights for two years.

Before going in-house with Gap, Wallace worked as an associate with Folger Levin & Kahn and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, according to her LinkedIn profile.

REI did not immediately respond to request for further comment.

“Wallace has a lifelong enthusiasm for the outdoors. She loves to spend time trail running, biking, kayaking and paddle boarding with her family,” the press release stated.
