Cat Casey

Chief Innovation Officer

Cat Casey is Chief Innovation Officer for DISCO, helping lead innovation and direction for DISCO’s legal technology solutions. She is a frequent guest lecturer and outspoken advocate of legal professionals embracing technology to deliver better legal outcomes. Casey has over a decade and a half of experience assisting clients with complex ediscovery and forensic needs that arise from litigation, expansive regulation and complex contractual relationships.

Before joining DISCO, Casey was the director of Global Practice Support for Gibson Dunn, based out of their New York office. She led a global team comprising experienced practitioners in the areas of electronic discovery, data privacy, and information governance. Her experience includes large complex litigation, HSR Second Requests, FCPA, AML, market manipulation cases, antitrust enforcement actions, government, and internal investigations.

Before joining Gibson Dunn, Casey was a leader in the Forensic Technology Practice for PwC. She also led the North American division of an international ediscovery and contract analytics firm, built out the antitrust forensic technology practice, and served as the national subject matter expert on ediscovery for KPMG. Casey graduated cum laude from Harvard University and attended Pepperdine School of Law.

Mark Smolik

DHL Supply Chain Americas

Mark Smolik leads the company’s legal, commercial contracts management, compliance, and economic development teams. He also serves as Global Chair of the company’s Supply Chain Legal Services Practice Group. The company employs 48,000 associates throughout the Americas and provides third party logistics, supply chain management, and contract packaging services to many of the world’s largest companies. The company also provides general management, professional back-office support and creative marketing services through its Williams Lea TAG operations.

Prior to joining DHL, Mark served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer of Safelite Autoglass where he also led the Human Resources and Government Affairs departments. Prior to joining Safelite, Mark served as Senior Corporate Counsel with The Sherwin-Williams Company.

Mark received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from John Carroll University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Columbus 2020, the economic development organization for the eleven county Columbus, Ohio region. Mark also serves as a member of the Board of Advisors of Logigforce, and the Board of Visitors of the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. He is a frequent speaker, and the author of several publications, on the changing dynamics of the legal industry.

Vice President, Knowledge Management & Information Governance

Julie Heller focuses on developing and implementing strategy for KM and IG topics including data lifecycle management and classification, legacy data disposition, and legal hold and data preservation processes. Ms. Heller has more than 22 years of eDiscovery, legal technology and legal project management experience. Ms. Heller possesses more than 18 years of litigation technology management experience and previously worked at Baker Hostetler LLP, Epiq Systems eDiscovery Solutions, Proskauer Rose LLP and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. She holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.S. from Columbia University.
