With housing costs once again soaring in the U.S, record numbers of new community land trusts are starting up around the US. This CLE is designed to increase attorney awareness of the shared equity home ownership model, and to provide a framework for how the ground lease and other legal tools function to create and steward permanently affordable home ownership.

This program will cover the statutory background of bona fide prospective purchasers, relevant case law regarding the same, and practical experience.

Local government land use decisions affect economic development and quality of life. They can also create major challenges to efforts by property owners to develop and use their property, as well as to residents as they cope with growth and change. Get the tools you need to work with issues of abandoned and problem properties with the practical guidance this program offers.

Despite Myanmar’s recent transition out of military rule, conflict and human rights violations are ongoing in Myanmar. This program features a Clinical Instructor and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School’s International Human Rights Clinic who will help you learn about land rights, as well as the complexities of human rights advocacy, government structures, and the rule of law, in Myanmar.

In June 2019, the Supreme Court overruled its Williamson County precedent, which required that property owners, as a practical matter, must bring their Fifth Amendment takings claims against state or local governments in state courts. The Court’s new decision, in Knick v. Township of Scott , allows them to bring their inverse condemnation claims directly in federal court. Panelists who pled both sides of this case will discuss their insights into this important decision and its ramifications.
