Federal investigators have reportedly launched a probe to determine if fugitive Malaysian financier Jho Low arranged payments using laundered money to several lawyers representing him, including Marc Kasowitz of Kasowitz Benson Torres, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and King & Spalding partner Bobby Burchfield. There is no indication of any wrongdoing on the lawyers’ part.

Citing anonymous sources “familiar with the matter,” The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday on the existence of an investigation into potential payments by Low, who is currently a fugitive and faces accusations that he played a major role in embezzling some $4.5 billion from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), a sovereign wealth fund.
