Over a holiday box office weekend dominated by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest action thriller, “The Revenant,” was also well received, with a limited opening in New York and Los Angeles.

DiCaprio, who starred in 2014’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,” has earned raves for his work playing a mountain man determined to survive after a brutal grizzly bear attack in the historical fiction drama directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, himself known for critically acclaimed films such as “Amores perros” and “Birdman.”
