GrayRobinson posted $138.5 million in gross revenue in 2013, up 4.1 percent from 2012. However, profits per partner were stagnant at $430,000, while revenue per lawyer rose 3.1 percent, to $495,000.

“We’re happy with how the firm has ended up in these challenging times,” firm president and managing director Byrd “Biff” Marshall says. “If income and profits per partner are flat but expenses went up, we’re happy with that.”

Health care costs increased sharply at the firm in 2013, Marshall says. He declined to say by how much the costs have risen, but says that health care “by far” accounts for the biggest boost in expenses at the firm.

Based in Orlando, GrayRobinson is one of Florida’s fastest-growing firms. (It has 11 offices in the state.) Marshall says the firm has seen growth in its real estate and land-use practices, particularly in South Florida. GrayRobinson added a new practice area last year when Coral Gables attorneys Joel Hirschhorn and Brian Bieber joined the firm to open its white-collar criminal defense.
