After nearly a decade as a senior attorney-adviser at the U.S. State Department’s Office of the Legal Adviser, LEE CAPLAN has joined Arent Fox as a Washington, D.C.–based partner. Caplan will focus on international arbitration and dispute resolution, international investment law and policy and public international law matters.
Baker & Hostetler has hired PAMELA JONES HARBOUR as the new coleader of its privacy and data protection team. A former commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission, Harbour joins as a partner focusing on competition and consumer protection law. She most recently worked at Norton Rose Fulbright.
Dykema made two hires in Los Angeles by absorbing the practices of a pair of solo practitioners. JEFFREY HURON, who joins Dykema as a partner, focuses on business, real estate and entertainment litigation, as well as civil appeals. SAM MILLER, who arrives as senior counsel, advises on commercial and corporate transactional work.
Corporate partners GEORGE LEE III and EVAN STONE have joined Gardere Wynne Sewell in Dallas along with one associate. The duo joins their new firm from the now-defunct Lee & Stone, a boutique they cofounded in 2009 that focused on representing advisers to private investment funds and public and private corporations. Both are alumni of Am Law 100 firms, with Lee spending time at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld and Baker Botts, and Stone doing a stint at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Greenberg Traurig has hired WENDY LI as a shareholder in New York. Li, who was previously a partner at Patton Boggs, advises clients on matters related to banking, bank regulation, securities, mergers and acquisitions, funds and educational law.
The Minneapolis office of Jackson Lewis now counts LEE LASTOVICH as a shareholder. Lastovich, previously with Minnesota firm Felhaber Larson, is a labor and employment litigator. Jackson Lewis has also added RICHARD PAUL as of counsel in Memphis. Paul most recently spent more than a decade as regional counsel for FedEx Express.
NICK BENSON is moving from Weil, Gotshal & Manges to Latham & Watkins in London. Benson will join Latham as a partner in the private equity group and will advise sponsors and investors on all aspects of private equity, infrastructure and real estate funds. Benson spent a decade at Clifford Chance before joining Weil in 2011.
An asbestos litigation team that includes new partners FLORENCE MCCLAIN, HELEN LUETTO and ELIZABETH HUYNH has joined Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith. McClain joins the firm in San Francisco along with three associates, while Luetto and Huynh will be based in Lewis Brisbois’ Costa Mesa, Calif., office.
LYNN ANNE SHAPIRO is the newest partner in McDermott Will & Emery’s Los Angeles office. Previously with O’Melveny & Myers, Shapiro works on real estate transactions. McDermott also recently hired LAURELLE GUTIERREZ as a partner in its private client group, based in Silicon Valley. Gutierrez, previously with California firm Carr, McClellan, Ingersoll, Thompson & Horn, advises high-net-worth individuals and families on tax planning and wealth transfer strategies.
McGuireWoods has gained CARLOS MUNIZ as a partner in Jacksonville and as a senior vice president of its affiliate, McGuireWoods Consulting. Muniz most recently worked as a deputy state attorney and chief of staff to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Earlier in his career he served as senior counsel to then–Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. McGuireWoods also announced the hire this week of GILES SUTTON, a new partner in the firm’s tax and employee benefits practice. Based in Washington, D.C., Sutton joins from Grant Thornton, where he headed the firm’s state and local tax technical services practice and retail industry team.
NICOLE HUGHES WAID has left the U.S. attorney’s office in the Middle District of Florida, where she was chief of the Fort Myers division, to join Roetzel & Andress. A partner in the white-collar litigation and corporate compliance practice group, Waid is now based in Washington, D.C.
Intellectual property lawyer BRIAN ARNOLD has lateraled from Loeb & Loeb to Snell & Wilmer. Based in Los Angeles, Arnold focuses on patent litigation and IP–related commercial cases. He joins as a partner.
After four years at King & Spalding, bankruptcy lawyer HARRIS WINSBERG has returned to Troutman Sanders. A partner based in Atlanta, Winsberg represents financial institutions and borrowers on corporate restructurings, workouts and consumer protection–related regulatory matters.
