Allen & Overy has added an antitrust partner to its Sydney office.

Peter McDonald joins from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was a partner since 2009. He advises on competition law and regulatory issues in mergers and acquisitions and other transactions. He focuses particularly on the energy and resources sector.

He joined former Freehills in Melbourne in 2003 and stayed through the merger with Herbert Smith last year. Before that, he spent five years as a senior officer at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Allen & Overy has two Australia offices in Sydney and Perth. Globally, the firm has 2,300 lawyers in 42 offices.
