Foley & Lardner has hired a chief representative and new partner for its Shanghai office.

Shao-Ying Mautner joins the Milwaukee-based firm from GC.GC, a Hong Kong-based legal consulting firm which she founded in 2010. She focuses on mergers and acquisitions as well as China-related disputes.

Prior to setting up GC.GC, Mautner held several in-house positions in Asia. From 2009 to 2010, She was the China regional counsel for London-based beverage company Diageo Plc. Before that, she worked for five years as China general counsel for Nike Inc., focusing on intellectual property and compliance matters. She was also previously international counsel at U.S. measurement device maker Tektronix Inc.

Mautner began her legal career as an associate at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and then Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Foley & Lardner has about 900 lawyers in 21 offices, with its Asian locations in Shanghai and Tokyo. According to the firm’s website, it has seven lawyers, including five partners, in Shanghai.
