Herbert Smith Freehills has advised a group of banks providing a $911 million syndicated loan to Australian construction group Leighton Holdings.

Sydney partner Melita Cottrell led the Herbert Smith team advising the 22 banks, which included Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd., the National Australia Bank Ltd., and Mizuho Corporate Bank Ltd.

Clayton Utz Sydney partner Bradley Allen acted for Leighton, which will use the loan to help refinance an existing facility the company entered into in 2008. Proceeds from the loan will also be used for working capital and general corporate purposes.

Mayer Brown JSM and Jakarta-based Mochtar Karuwin Komar acted as Hong Kong and Indonesia counsel to Leighton, respectively.
