The Indian subsidiary of Citigroup Inc. has named IndusLaw Mumbai partner Pramod Rao its general counsel.
Rao joined 52-lawyer IndusLaw last year and launched the Bangalore-based firm’s Mumbai office. Before that, he was the general counsel for over seven years at ICICI Bank, India’s second-largest bank in terms of assets. He first joined the Mumbai-based bank in 1996.
At Citibank India, Rao will lead a team of about 17 lawyers in Mumbai. In a statement issued by IndusLaw, Rao said he had decided he wasn’t well-suited for private practice at a firm.
“I am more comfortable in being an in-house counsel, and that is where my path lies,” he said.
IndusLaw has nine partners and one of counsel in Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai offices.
