Former Allen & Overy Tokyo managing partner Aled Davies has left to join Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.

Project finance specialist Davies will join Milbank’s Tokyo office on September 1. He typically advises sponsors, developers, and lenders on financings for large infrastructure and energy projects. Milbank has a leading practice in the area.
Last year, Davies acted for Ichthys LNG Pty. Ltd., a joint venture that included Japan’s INPEX Corp. and France’s Total S.A., on a $20 billion financing for a $34 billion liquefied natural gas project in Western Australia.
Davies first joined Allen & Overy as an associate in Japan in 1996 and became a partner four years later. In addition to heading the firm’s Tokyo office, he also served as head of the Asia Pacific project finance practice.
Allen & Overy said Davies will be replaced as Tokyo office head partner Simon Black, who has worked for the firm in both China and Japan over the past 18 years.
