Reed Smith Richards Butler has added a litigation partner to its global shipping practice in Hong Kong.

Jason Toms will be joining Reed Smith from Stephenson Harwood, where he headed the shipping practice. He mainly represents ship owners, charterers and freight forwarders in insurance disputes.
Toms also advises on trust and estate matters; he was one of the lead lawyers advising the $12 billion estate of Hong Kong tycoon Nina Wang in its 2010 court fight against feng shui advisor Tony Chan, who claimed Wang willed her fortune to him. Chan’s claims were rejected and he was charged with forgery earlier this year.
Admitted in the U.K. and in Hong Kong, Toms moved to Hong Kong from London with the former Sinclair Roche & Temperley in 1997. That firm merged with Stephenson Harwood in 2002. Toms became a partner in 2008.
Pittsburgh-based Reed Smith has more than 1,700 lawyers worldwide and around 85 in Hong Kong.
