has hired a new partner for its energy practice in Singapore.
Merrick White was formerly a partner at
, where he specialized in transactions in the oil and gas industry.
In May, White led the Clifford Chance team that advised Indian refiner Nagarjuna Oil Ltd. on its acceptance of a $130 million investment by Singapore-based petroleum company Trafigura Pte. Ltd.
White joined Clifford Chance in Singapore in 2003 as consultant and became a partner last year. Prior to becoming a lawyer, White, a trained chemical engineer, worked in Southeast Asia in marketing and engineering positions at several of major oil companies.
King & Spalding’s Singapore branch, which counts three partners and two associates, opened in 2010 and is the Atlanta-based firm’s only Asian office. It serves as a hub for the firm’s energy and international arbitration practice in Asia. The firm has over 800 lawyers working in 17 offices worldwide.
