Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has added a corporate partner to its Beijing office.
Simon Cheong is joining the Los Angeles firm from Beijing’s Zhong Lun Law Firm.
Cheong focuses on mergers and acquisitions and financing deals. In 2010, he advised Chinese commercial property developer SOHO China Ltd. on its $353 million acquisition of a plot of land located on Shanghai’s Bund.
Cheong Joined Zhong Lun as of counsel in 2008 and became partner in 2009. Before that, he was a Beijing-based senior counsel at Washington D.C.-based International Finance Corp. (IFC) for four years. He previously also practiced as associate in the Hong Kong offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Baker & McKenzie.
With Cheong, Sheppard, Mullin will have seven lawyers in its Beijing office, two of whom are partners.
