The case was considered a landmark class action under the Americans with Disabilities Act when it received class certification in 2007. But the Third Circuit, with a celebrity guest appearance by Sandra Day O'Connor, overturned the certification, finding that there was no criteria unifying the purported class--even though the plaintiffs alleged a companywide policy of requiring employees to be able to perform their old jobs when they returned from medical leave.
