The New York Post reported over the weekend that Michael DiMattia of McGuireWoods recently sent a letter to Manhattan federal district court judge Loretta Preska seeking to withdraw from a case defending a Jay-Z company that owns The 40/40 Club in New York. The underlying suit, filed in 2007, alleges that hundreds of 40/40 Club staff have been shortchanged for their work. DiMattia, who the Post says has been representing Jay-Z since July 2008, wrote to Judge Preska explaining that the firm’s “requests for payment have been ignored.” The article didn’t specify how much the firm is owed.

An attorney for the plaintiffs, Rex Burch of Bruckner Burch, told the Post that he was surprised by the letter. “For rap’s biggest mogul, you’d think this amount of money would be chump change,” he said.
