Lawyers for California-based intellectual property litigator Zoya Kovalenko on Wednesday asked the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to quash subpoenas issued by Kirkland & Ellis to law firms where Kovalenko was previously employed, which include Paul Hastings and Fish & Richardson. Kovalenko’s initial complaint against the firm, filed pro se, drew widespread attention for including comments that highlighted perceived weaknesses in her argument.

Kovalenko is now being represented by counsel and her legal team also asked the court for a protective order forbidding Kirkland’s discovery inquiry “to protect plaintiff from annoyance, embarrassment, oppression, undue burden or expense.”
